Since 2017 and our commercial launch in 2019, we have established partnerships with research institutions, NGOs, input organizations, financial institutions and farmer organizations to work with farmers, agro-processors and off-takers. Our services aim to ensure sustainable and continuous flow of market, input, finance and climatic information to value chain actors especially smallholder farmers and frontline extension agents.
The Agribusiness extension and advisory services of APS is an interdisciplinary research-based extension system, which brings together experts from across agriculture, business and development.
We envisage an extension system which works with nature, link value chain actors and provide access to quality products.
Our extension delivery system is a platform of relevant stakeholders working together to build the agricultural extension and advisory services for modern agribusinesses and social impact. Experienced extension agents and talented youths wants to help, but they are not equipped with the tools, information and platform to integrate their experience, energy and talent into the agribusiness sector. To succeed at scale, APS is creating better connections between research centers, market outlets and those on the front lines of agricultural value chain development.
APS strengthen farmer groups, cooperatives and associations, and in doing so assess, innovate and customize solutions that give them access to continuous information and improved technology which enable them to maximize profit and minimize risks. Cooperative strengthening is the sure way to mitigate scattered small units of production, increase productivity and bargaining power among farmers.
As a result of our synergies with various value chain actors, APS provides linkages, resources and information to our prospective clients.
With the rise of food processing and exporting companies, sourcing of raw materials and farm produce through aggregation will be challenging especially with 75% of the produce coming from the smallholder farmers. In grower scheme, out grower scheme and contract farming are models processors have tried and dropped by majority due to the risk involve. APS backward integration models reduces the financial risks, loan defaults and mitigation strategy against weather vagaries. Our grassroot reach guarantee constant supply of quality produce that meet international standards.
